March is 50mm Month!

The 50mm camera lens. A beginner lens to some, an all-around winner for others, there’s a lot to be said about the cheapest fixed-focal length lens available on most DSLR systems.

I shoot with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM (slightly more expensive than the Canon f/1.8, but better build quality and slightly faster aperture). Honestly, it rarely leaves my camera. It’s lightweight, low profile, fast, and produces great color and contrast. Don’t overlook this piece of glass because it’s one of the cheapest lenses out there—it’s the best value for your dollar.

For the month of March, I’m going to do a 50mm challenge and show the variety you can pull from a standard focal length. To get a jump start, here’s some photos I shot in February using the 50mm on my classic Canon 5D.
